Welcome to Early Explorers Child Care and Learning Center! I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an introduction to our philosophies and tell you a little about who I am as a mother, educator, and as the owner and director of our great program!
STEM/STEAM PHILOSOPHY
STEM is not a concept for the future. STEM is happening NOW! The rise of STEM focused education has completely changed the landscape of the education system, not only in the United States and around the world, but even right here in Midland, Michigan! STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating children in four specific disciplines-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, in an interdisciplinary and applied approach rather than as separate and independent subjects. STEM curriculum integrates all of the subjects into one cohesive philosophy based on real world situations. STEAM is nothing more then STEM, but with ART!
EARLY CHILDHOOD STEM/STEAM PHILOSOPHY
Midland Public School Administration Officials have been very public with their intent to implement STEM curriculum as a cornerstone in future educational programs for Midland Public Schools. Raising children in this methodology and ways of problem solving and thinking at the earliest of ages will be paramount to giving your child the head start that they deserve.
At Early Explorers Child Care and Learning Center, we incorporate STEM/STEAM curriculum into everything we do. Every child is born with a very profound sense of wonder to the world and their surroundings. By using STEM curriculum and techniques at the infant, toddler, and preschool age, the critical thinking skills and mindsets will already be developed and fertile once your child has moved forward into elementary school.
ABOUT ME
I live in right here in Midland with my family. I have children in all phases of education from elementary school to high school and even college. You will find my family bustling about Midland, just like yours! We are involved with little league baseball, youth football, cheerleading, and church events throughout the year! It is an exciting time to live in Midland, Michigan and enjoy the great changes and new opportunities everywhere!
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
I have over 19 years experience in early childhood education! I hold two degrees; one in Early Childhood Education and another degree in Fine Arts. In my career, I have been involved in every aspect of child care. As a previous owner of an in-home daycare, I have an unblemished record with the State of Michigan. I have been a Preschool Teacher, a Montessori Assistant Teacher, and a Program Director of a large High/Scope curriculum facility, all practicing in the State of Michigan.
These extensive experiences and education have given me a unique insight to the various versions of child care philosophies and practices. While Montessori and High/Scope were developed in 1897 (?!) and 1970 respectively, they have their disadvantages.
I firmly believe in providing an environment that is caring, loving, secure and nurturing. Our classrooms are designed so that children are free to select materials and activities that encourages growth, exploration, and discovery through the joy of play. Through the process of play and exploration, children develop skills in all areas of development; physical, intellectual, language, emotional, and social.
There really is so much to discuss on our philosophies and ways of educating and nurturing our young children! As you may see, this is a passion of mine, not just professionally, but it is really ingrained into the very essence of who I am as a mother and as an educator!
